A letter requesting permission to commence contempt of court proceedings against stand up comedian Kunal Kamra has been written to India’s Attorney General KK Venugopal by advocate Vineet Jindal.

Advocate Jindal accused Kamra of defaming and passing derogatory comments against the Supreme Court of India and Indian Judiciary.

Jindal in his letter stated that Kamra has been misusing his freedom of speech and expression and intends to defame the Indian Judicial system.

“He has passed derogatory and scandalous statements about the Honourable Supreme Court of India while he was already undergoing a trial for his contempt against court.”

Advocate Jindal requested for Attorney General’s permission to begin contempt of court proceedings against Kunal Kamra for his derogatory remarks referring his previous contempt of court initiated by Supreme Court.

The letter further stated that the Kamra intends to develop mistrust among the citizens of the country by challenging the secular nature of the judicial system.

“Kamra intends to develop mistrust among Indian citizens by challenging the secular nature of the judicial system and questioning its constitutional authority by calling it “Brahmin Baniya” affair and that it did not represent different cultures.”

Another complaint was filed by advocate Ashutosh J Dubey, a practising legal attorney at the Bombay High Court and the legal advisor to the BJP Maharashtra.

Advocate Dubey requested Honourable Chief Justice of India and Supreme Court of India to initiate proceedings against comedian Kunal Kamra for criminal contempt under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971. He accused Kamra of exploiting the right to freedom of speech and expression by tarnishing the image of Indian legal system.

In his new YouTube video, “Be Like”, Kamra disrespected the Supreme Court in response to the contempt of court suit filed against him in the Supreme Court. Kamra said, “Dear SC, kal ki baat bhul jaa, l*vda pakad ke jhul ja ( forget whatever happened yesterday, come swing on p*nis)”.

He also said that he had more respect for the food court in the shopping mall than the Supreme Court and that Supreme Court is a “Brahmin Baniya” affair which does not bother to represent other cultures and ethnicities.

Kunal Kamra was served with a contempt of court notice, under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 on December 18,2020 for allegedly showing middle finger to CJI Arvind Bobde and painting the Supreme Court in saffron colour to portray it as a puppet of the NDA government.
