The Delhi High Court granted bail to six accused persons who were arrested in connection with a case related to the death of a 20-year-old Dilbar Singh Negi during the violence in North-East Delhi in February 2020.
Mohammad Tahir, Shahrukh, Mohammad Faizal, Mohammad Shoaib, Rashid and Parvez were granted bail by Justice Subramonium Prasad.
The accused were also booked in a case of vandalism, putting fire on a sweet shop. The fire in the sweet shop led to the death of the 20-year-old man due to burn injuries.
Dilbar Negi, was burnt by the six accused persons and after burning him, they cut off his hands and feet. Negi was a resident of Uttarakhand, he came to Delhi in search of a job from his native village in Uttarakhand six months before the incident happened.
An FIR was registered under Section 147 (Punishment for rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (Unlawful Assembly), 302 (Murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 436 (Mischief by fire) and 427 (Mischief causing damage) of IPC at a police station at Gokalpuri.
According to the victims, the rioters pelted stones, chanted anti-Hindu slogans, burnt many shops and houses and entered a building where the deceased was hiding. They killed him and burnt the body along with the building.
Advocate Amit Mahajan appearing for Delhi Police opposed the grant of bail to the accused people.
53 people were killed while around 200 people suffered from serious injuries in the North-East Delhi riots that happened in February 2020.
