Fashion Designer Sabyasachi’s current ‘Intimate Fine Jewellery’ collection has been strongly criticized on social media. Models in the promotional photoshoot wear the mangalsutra while posing alone or in intimate poses with others. In one of the photos, a female model wearing a black brassiere and the mangalsutra rests her head on a shirtless male model.
Twitter users criticized the ad campaign for having “half nude models for a Mangalsutra commercial.”
Sabyasachi was criticized earlier this month for selling “overpriced” cotton saris at Rs 9,999 as part of his collaboration with H&M.
A mangalsutra is a sign of marriage, and the wife is expected to wear it for the rest of her life, symbolising the husband and wife’s love and dedication to each other. A mangalsutra typically consists of two strings of black beads and a gold pendant.
”No! This is no lingerie or Condom Ad. This is Sabyasachi Mangalsutra Ad.” and many other users slammed celebrity designers’ latest collection.
The promotional shoot shows heterosexual and same-sex couples posing for photos. What’s your opinion on Sabhyasachi’s Mangalsutra campaign?
