The death of singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, also known as KK, has been investigated by the Kolkata Police Department as an unnatural death. The incident was reported to the New Market Police Department.
After returning from a show in Kolkata on Tuesday, May 31, the singer collapsed at the Grand Hotel, which is located near the New Market police station, and was rushed to a private hospital in the city, where he was pronounced dead.
His face and head were injured, according to police sources. On Wednesday, an autopsy will be performed at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata to determine the cause of death. The police will examine the Grand Hotel’s CCTV footage and speak with hotel staff and event organisers.
Minister Aroop Biswas said KK’s body was transferred from a private to a state-run hospital for a post-mortem, which is required when a patient is declared dead upon arrival. “The body will be flown to Mumbai after the post-mortem.” K K’s widow, as well as their son and daughter, have arrived in Kolkata, according to him.
On Tuesday night, KK became ill after complaining about the excessive heat in the auditorium where he was performing. After taking a break in the middle of the performance, he returned to his hotel. Ritesh Bhatt, KK’s manager, who was in the car with him, said the singer became uneasy in the car on the way back to the hotel.
“He stated that he was extremely cold and requested that the driver turn off the air conditioning.” He complained of cramps in his arms and feet. He even posed for photos with fans and signed autographs after arriving at the hotel. “When he got to his room, he collapsed and fell on the floor,” Bhatt told reporters after the police took his statement.
KK’s show drew over 3,000 people, despite the auditorium’s capacity of around 2,000. KK was constantly wiping his sweat and pointing at the air-conditioning machines in the show’s videos.
