A man named Govind Thakor, attempted suicide in the district court premises at Diwalipura in Vadodara on Tuesday afternoon. He consumed poison from a bottle and was rushed to Gotri Hospital for treatment. The police said that his condition was stable.
The Police said that the 47-year-old man was in the courtroom for the hearing of a maintenance case filed by his spouse some years ago in the past. The man was having an estanged relationship with his wife. He had some argument with his wife and consumed poison in the court complex.
“Thakor was supposed to pay ₹ 4.50 lakh to her and hearing for which was kept on Tuesday. Thakor was sentenced to jail a few days in the same case in the past too. He seems to have consumed poison to divert attention as he would have had to pay more money to his wife. His condition is stable but the doctors have kept him under observation.”
The 47-year-old man had came to meet the SP of Police to complain against his wife. There, he met his wife, Sanjoo Devi who had also came to meet the SP. The two started blaming each other and then the blame game turned into a heated argument and after that they started fighting.
Both of them reached near the court complex where the man consumed poison in a fit of rage. He was then rushed to the nearest hospital. From there he was referred to the PGIMS in Rohtak, Haryana.
Thakor has been attending the court hearings for the last three years. His family claimed that he was couldn’t arrange money and that’s why he attempted suicide by consuming poison.
