We talk about Women Empowerment and the ways to uplift women. Campaigns are organized to empower women. Indian constitution gives equal rights to women since the beginning, the voices of women are heard in Parliament, courts and in the streets as well. But still crimes like rapes, eve teasing and indecent exposure are being committed against women.

A shocking incident took place in a place called Ambejogai in Beed where a married minor girl was raped by more than 400 people in six months on the pretext of job.

The family of the victim does labourer work. The girl lost her mother a couple of years ago. After she lost her mother, her father fixed her marriage around eight months ago. She stayed at her husband’s place for one and a half years. According to the girl, her husband did not treat her right and her in-laws used to beat her daily.

She ran away and came back to her father, but her father refused to take her back. She was abandoned by her family. To make the ends meet, she started begging at a bus stand at Ambajogai in Beed district.

As she was not able to earn enough, she started looking for other jobs. While searching for jobs she met two people from academy. They raped her, by promising her jobs. After that she was raped by hundreds of people. When she went to register a complaint, a police officer also raped her.

According to the victim’s statement to Child Welfare Committee, she tried registering complaint at a police station but nobody helped her.

“I have been abused by so many people. I went to Ambajogai police station several times to file a complaint, but the police took no action against the culprits. Instead I was harassed by a policeman.”

The victim became 20 weeks pregnant, the victim said in her statement to the Child Welfare Committee. Beed District Superintendent of Police R Raja has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

A police complaint has been registered.
