On the next date of hearing in the case of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal youth leader Arjun Chowrasia, who was found hanging inside a building in North Kolkata’s Ghosh Bagan area, the Calcutta High Court directed the State government to inform the Court about the findings of the report of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Kolkata.
A bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition seeking judicial intervention in an unnatural death case involving suspicions of foul play.
On Thursday, the petitioner’s lawyer, Priyanka Tibrewal, argued that the viscera report is required to determine the nature of the crime and the case of death.
Furthermore, Advocate General S.N Mookherjee, arguing for the State, informed the Court that on May 13, the investigating agencies got a viscera sample from the Command Hospital in Kolkata, which was then given over to the CFSL in Kolkata for analysis.
As a result, the Court asked the Advocate General to inform the Court on the next day of hearing, June 14, about the report of the CFSL, Kolkata, referring to the viscera sample.
On Thursday, the Bench heard an intervening motion filed by the deceased’s mother, requesting, among other things, a CBI investigation into the murder.
As a result, the Bench ordered the State administration to respond to the intervening motion before the next hearing date, if necessary.
