The Dussehra Break in the Apex Court starts from October 11, after that the physical hearings may resume in the courts said the CJI.

The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said on Sunday that full-fledged physical hearings in the Supreme Court may resume after the Dussehra break. He said that judges don’t have any problem with the physical hearings.

CJI spoke at the felicitation function organised by Lady Advocates of the Supreme Court to honour the Chief Justice of India and Judges of Supreme Court.

“I have no issues, even during the pandemic time I was ready, the majority of the advocates are not preferring physical courts for whatever reason. Senior counsels have some reservations but youngsters and other advocates are willing to come. Hopefully, after the Dussehra vacation, we will have physical hearings. Judges have no problem with physical courts.”

The CJI said that we don’t want to take risks also, “We hope that there are no more Covid-19 waves and most probably post Dussehra vacations, we can go for the physical hearings,” he added.

The Chief Justice of India also spoke about the less representation of women in the courts of India.

“After coming back yesterday night from Odisha, I collected some information on our system. In subordinate court women judges are less than 40 percent, in High Court it is less than 11 percent and same in 11 percent in the Supreme Court. There are only 2 percent elected members of State Bar Councils.”

He said that the representation of women in the judiciary system should be atleast 50% percent.

“With the help of you, we may reach this goal in apex court and other courts. I don’t know whether I will be here or somewhere else. That day I will be definitely happy.”
