Senior Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra has been elected as the Chairman of the Bar Council of India. He was not opposed by anyone during the poll and has been elected as the Chairman for the 6th time in a row.
The results of elections for office bearers of the Council were announced on Saturday.
In the history of the Bar Council Of India it is for the first time that someone has been elected unopposed for 6 consecutive times.
Earlier, Senior Advocate late Ram Jethmalani had been elected as the Chairperson for four terms.The Bar Council elections were held on February 6, 2022. However, the results were kept in sealed covers after a member of the Bar Council had challenged the elections before the High Court.
The Karnataka High Court had directed to the BCI not to announce the results and had refused to stay the elections. The ballot papers were put in a sealed cover to be produced before the court on next date of hearing ie February 18, 2022.
The elections were held with former Chief Justice of Patna High Court, L Narasimha Reddy and former Patna High Court judge Anjana Mishra serving as observer and co-observer for the election process.
Senior Advocate S Prabhakaran has been elected as the vice-chairperson for the second consecutive term.
The tenure of the newly elected office bearers will start from April 17, 2022. The office bearers will hold their offices till April 16, 2022.
