A viral video of hairstylist Jawed Habib allegedly spitting on a woman’s hair has been brought to the attention of the National Commission for Women (NCW). The video in question was taken during a session held by Habib in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. In response to a news article about the viral video, NCW took to Twitter on Thursday to claim that its chairman, Rekha Sharma, has written to the Director-General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, requesting action.
The letter stated, “The commission has taken this occurrence very seriously and not only condemns it in the harshest possible terms, but also demands your quick intervention in the matter to investigate the validity of this viral video for immediate action as per law/procedure.”
“This incident also draws a violation of instructions provided by the Union Home Ministry under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, whereby spitting in public is prohibited,” NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma added.
NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma has also written to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, pleading with him to prosecute Jawed Habib. Following the video, hairstylist Jawed Habib became a Twitter trending topic. The video sparked an online debate.
Now, in a video statement, the celebrity hairstylist has apologised. The video in question was taken during a session held by Habib in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Jawed Habib claimed in his apologetic video that such things are frequently done with a “humorous” goal during workshops. He was, however, deeply sorry if anyone was harmed as a result of this.
“I went to Jawed Habib’s workshop the other day. He called me up to the platform and offered to give me a haircut. If there isn’t any water available, he suggests using saliva. I’ll no longer go to Habib for a haircut; instead, I’ll go to my neighbourhood barber “Gupta, who owns a parlour, remarked
