According to police, a 24-year-old woman who reportedly tried suicide with a man outside the Supreme Court here died on Tuesday.

On August 16, the woman suffered 85 per cent burns because of her attempted self-immolation. The 27-year-old guy died from his injuries on Saturday after suffering 65% burns. Both were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. “The woman died to her injuries during the course of treatment on Tuesday,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Deepak Yadav.

“The woman died to her injuries during the course of treatment on Tuesday,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Deepak Yadav. They claimed she was from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh and was molested by Bahujan Samaj Party MP Atul Rai in 2019. For the last two years, the MP has been held in judicial detention in the case.

Before attempted suicide, the lady and her companion filmed a Facebook Live video in which she revealed her name and claimed to have filed a rape lawsuit against Rai in 2019. She said that several top police officials were on the side of the accused.

The lady acknowledged the warrant and being called by the judge in her Facebook video. In March, the lady petitioned the Supreme Court for the relocation of her rape case from Allahabad to Delhi for a fair trial, claiming that her life was in danger. Later that month, based on a complaint submitted by Rai’s brother, a municipal court in Varanasi issued a non-bailable warrant against her in the forgery case.
