According to Haryana Police, former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh was detained and freed on bail in an alleged casteist comments case on Sunday, in accordance with a High Court decision. During an Instagram conversation last year, Singh is accused of making casteist comments against another player. When he went to Hansi town in Hisar, the police stated it was a “formal arrest,” and he was freed on bail in accordance with the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s ruling.
“On Saturday, Yuvraj Singh arrived in Hansi, and we conducted a formal arrest.” After a few hours, he was freed on bail bond”DSP, Vinod Shankar
Yuvraj Singh had already apologised for “unintentional comments” and that he was “misunderstood” following his June 2020 Instagram live video with ex-teammate Rohit Sharma. Yuzvendra Chahal’s TikTok videos were discussed by Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma.
The action came in response to a complaint made in February this year by a Dalit activist in Haryana, who demanded his arrest and the filing of a case under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which seeks to ban discrimination. On the court’s directions, a First Information Report, or FIR, was filed in the case.
“On October 6, police were requested to include Yuvraj Singh in the investigation. We have learned that Yuvraj Singh surrendered to authorities in Hisar yesterday, was questioned for two to three hours, and then arrested. Also, because his bail was granted under the SC/ST Act, we are appealing it in the Supreme Court, and we expect to see him behind bars soon”Rajat Kalsan, Activist
Yuvraj Singh in his statement said that “I apologise if I have unintentionally hurt anyone’s sentiments or feelings,” he said, adding that his “love for India and all its people is eternal. I believe that I was misinterpreted during a chat with my friends, which was unwarranted.”
